Presenter

Adolf K. Maas, DVM, DABVP (R&A), CertAqV.

Technical Service Veterinarian – Jurox Western U.S.

Dr. Adolf Maas practices as a consulting and exotic/zoo animal veterinarian, after having worked at many locations in the Midwest and Eastern United States. Originally from the Seattle area, he attended the University of Washington graduate school and University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. Since then, he has worked at and received advanced training at a number of zoos and wildlife facilities, and was a clinician at the Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic (Indianapolis, Indiana) and the Indianapolis Veterinary Referral Center, one of the highest ranked referral and specialty facilities in the Midwest. Additionally, he was the owner of Exotic and Companion Animal Veterinary Services, a mobile exotics-only practice in Indiana, and was the founder, owner and director of the Center for Bird and Exotic Animal Medicine, one of the three largest exotic-animal-only facilities in the U.S., located in the suburban Seattle area.
Dr. Maas has received advanced training and has extensive experience in orthopedic reconstruction and surgery, cardiac and abdominal ultrasonography, rigid and flexible endoscopy, anesthesia practices, soft tissue surgery and internal medicine. He works diligently to continue to be not only current on advancements in avian and exotic animal medicine, but also to further the progress of medicine in animals with continued cutting-edge research and publications. Over the last fifteen years, he has co-authored a number of research articles and book chapters. In 2011 Dr. Maas became one of the first ABVP board certified veterinarians in Reptile and Amphibian medicine, and in 2014 obtained Certified Aquatics Veterinarian status. He believes in constantly “setting the bar” in the veterinary field, not just simply reaching it.
Currently, Dr. Maas is providing current “Best Practices” domestic animal anesthesia teaching and consultation services via Jurox, Inc., and provides medical, surgical and anesthesia consulting services to several zoos, collection facilities and wildlife NGOs through ZooVet Consulting, PLLC.
