Celebrate National Pet Week® in May
Friday, April 24, 2015
Phoenix, AZ – April 22, 2015 – The Arizona Veterinary Medical Association (AzVMA) encourages you to celebrate the joys of pet ownership during National Pet Week®, May 3 - 9.
The observance, created by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and its Auxiliary, is dedicated to celebrating the pets in our lives and promoting responsible pet ownership. “The human-animal bond is powerful and positively impacts human health, wellness and happiness,” says Dr. Michelle Larsen of Emergency Animal Clinic PLC in Avondale. Take time this week to thank your pets by considering their health and happiness.
One of the most responsible things pet owners can do as the weather heats up is to ensure that pets are kept at safe temperatures and have plenty of water available. Pets should never be left unattended in cars. Use caution exercising or leaving outdoors if you have pets with risk factors such as obesity, heart issues, respiratory disease, and old age. These pets should be especially protected from the heat. Spring is also a great time to discuss preventative care with your veterinarian, such as parasite control and vaccinations. For more information visit avma.org or petweek.org and view the AVMA’s video salute to pets.
