PHOENIX – August 26, 2015 – Does your cat appear to smile?  If so, you might observe a month-long Cheshire Cat grin during Happy Cat Month in September.  The Arizona Veterinary Medical Association (AzVMA) encourages you to celebrate the joys of owning a cat, and to create a healthy and happy lifestyle for your feline companion.  The celebration was introduced by the CATalyst Council, a non-profit entity promoting the health and welfare of cats.

To keep your cat purring, ensure that their health needs are met with regular veterinary checkups and preventative care, provide playtime and claw-scratching opportunities, and help them maintain a healthy weight.  “Environmental enrichment is very important to preventing stress in cats, which can lead to a lot of hidden health issues.  Many resources are available to give you plenty of ideas to make your cat's environment more fun, including the CATalyst Council website.  There is a resource called the “CATegorical Care Guide with a lot of helpful information.” says Dr. Elaine Chambers of Canyon Veterinary Relief Services in Prescott, Ariz.

Call the AzVMA at 602-242-7936 for more information.  The Arizona Veterinary Medical Association is a membership organization representing over 2,000 veterinary professionals in the state of Arizona.
